Mongabay: Inspiring experiences of Amazonia 2.0

One of the 2021 objectives for the Amazonia 2.0 project is to generate greater impact and media resonance, giving visibility to the processes and tools achieved by the project. During the month of April, we had the opportunity to see the fruit of this media work, being portrayed in two important articles in Mongabay, one of the most recognized media worldwide in the environmental and scientific sector.

The first article, published on April 2, 2021, was written by South African journalist Dimitri Selibas, Mongabay's correspondent in Colombia. There, Dimitri shares information on the recently published FAO study entitled "Indigenous and Tribal Peoples and Forest Governance" (see study).

This study confirms the hypothesis of Amazonia 2.0, about the strategic alternative that represents the conservation of forests from indigenous, campesino and maroon territories. In the article, Dimitri portrays A2.0 as an action that exemplifies the findings of the FAO study. The article includes testimonies obtained by the journalist from Braulio Buendía, regional coordinator of the A2.0 project, and Gilberto Nenquimo, president of the Waorani Nationality of Ecuador and former technical monitor of A2.0.

The second article was published in Mongabay Brazil on April 15 2021, written by journalist Débora Pinto. The article entitled: "Project empowers Amazon guardians with the use of technology", portrays the experience of the Amazonia 2.0 project at the regional level, emphasizing its development in Brazil. The article also includes testimonials from Braulio Buendía; but additionally from the technical coordinators of Brazil and Peru, Carolle Alarcón and Rebeca Dumet, respectively.

We hope to continue expanding the media reach of the Amazonia 2.0 project, always grateful for the support of journalists dedicated to giving visibility to the environmental struggle.
