APPROACHING WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION DELEGATION IN BRAZIL

On August 11, a virtual meeting was held between the European Union delegation in Brazil and the Brazilian Amazonia 2.0 project team to present the progress of the Amazonia 2.0 project.

The meeting aimed to share and discuss with the project donor what has been developed so far in the country, the activities under execution in the last year of operations as well as future perspectives. During the event, it was also briefly discussed Rio Doce Panel, an additional project executed by IUCN's office in Brazil.

"Given that Amazonia 2.0 is a project funded by the European Union, we believe it is convenient that national delegations are aware of the actions executed. This is a healthy practice and has been motivated by the delegation itself in Peru, from where the regional implementation is monitored", emphasizes Carolle Alarcon, A2.0 Brazil national technical coordinator.

Attended the meeting the European Union Ambassador in Brazil, Ambassador Ignacio Ybáñez, the cooperation attaché, Pilar Blanco Rodrigues, the Advisor and Project Manager on Environment Cristina Carvalho and on behalf of the IUCN team, Carolle Alarcon, A2.0 national technical coordinator in Brazil, Barbara Souza, Global Programme Officer for Business and Biodiversity, and Gabriela Arnal, A2.0 communication strategy consultant.

The meeting pointed to the need to continue strengthening the institutional connection between IUCN Brazil and the EU delegation in the country, as well as for greater proximity and coordination with other EU-funded projects, with particular attention to those operating in the Amazon, with indigenous peoples and carried out by IUCN members in the country.
